Georgetown Democracy Initiative

The erosion of democracy in the United States and around the globe is an urgent shared challenge. The Georgetown Democracy Initiative, launched in fall 2025, supports research, teaching, and programming on democracy across the university, fostering the generation of new knowledge and serving as a platform to disseminate that knowledge.

The initiative is meant both to be about democracy and be democratic itself. The entire Georgetown community was welcome and encouraged to offer input and ideas on how the initiative moves forward.

To that end, we invited all members of the Georgetown community across all departments and schools to join us to consider what the initiative has accomplished in its first year, and what its priorities should be into the future.
